Greetings. I hope this note finds you and your family well.
The spread of COVID-19 has disrupted daily life across the entire United States, including our great city of Hartford. Clearly, we remain in the midst of an extremely serious and grave public health crisis. I want to thank and commend everyone on the front lines providing health care, ensuring public safety, supporting our children through school closures and volunteering their time to lend a hand to a fellow citizen. I also applaud those working at grocery stores, pharmacies and elsewhere who are providing essential services to all.
My office remains in close contact with Mayor Bronin and is also working in collaboration with the Governor’s Office and other state agencies.
My staff continues to serve participant and retiree needs through remote services. You are our customers and we are here to help you.
With regard to MERF, OPEB and defined contribution plan investments; my staff and I are closely monitoring financial markets and are in regular contact with our consultants and advisors. While we expect continued volatility, please note that the City’s pension funds are long-term investments, and the portfolio is broadly diversified to respond to market volatility.
In conclusion, I pledge the full resources of the City Treasurer’s Office to assist in getting through this difficult time period and to aid in our recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. Thank you for your patience. Together, we will get through these difficult times.
